Is there a HIN for my investments in securities?
Yes. Your securities are held under your own unique Holder Identification Number (HIN). A new HIN under your name is created for you at the time of account creation. Your security holdings are held in the 'individual HIN' structure instead of the 'custodial' structure.
There are two types of HIN structure – individual HIN and pooled HIN. Your securities are held under an individual HIN and not under a pooled HIN. Because your securities are held in the individual HIN structure, you are the legal owner as well as the beneficial owner of the security holdings.
We recommend the individual HIN structure over the custodial structure for our Managed Discretionary Account (MDA) service.
